GIVEAWAY – The American Gothic Cookbook

Our latest giveaway is for The American Gothic Cookbook.  This was supplied to me by The American Gothic Center in Eldon, IA.  This is a great little cookbook featuring several recipes, essays and illustrations from notable Iowans.  This giveaway will run from now until January 31.  We will draw and announce the winner on February 3rd.  To enter you only need to use the Contact Us form to indicate your interest in winning this prize.  Between now and January 31 we will make and feature a couple of the recipes on the site so you can get a sense for the recipes included in the book.
I did want to mention that there is a recipe for Old Fashioned Tomato Soup.  The reason this one caught my eye is because it is paired with a great essay about the history of the soup which was passed down to the contributor from his grandmother.  Jenny and I plan to can another batch of our Grandma’s Tomato Soup with this year’s crop of fresh tomatoes from the garden and feature that one for all of you sometime this year.  I think you will enjoy our recipe and the one featured in The American Gothic Cookbook.  Pictured to the right is the last jar of Grandma’s Tomato Soup that I have left in the cupboard.
Also in the book is a recipe for Fly-Off-the-Plate-Rolls by Lucille Verness from Shenandoah, Iowa who was the publisher of Kitchen Klatter Magazine and the host of a popular homemaker radio show that was started by her mother Leanna Field Driftmier and was the very first radio show of its kind.  At some point in some way I plan to share Grandma’s Delicate Rolls which is a great roll recipe too.
Hopefully that gives you a sense for why this would be a good cookbook to have!
